Ulverston inshore rescue team gets a permanent base

• A volunteer water rescue team on the Cumbrian coast has been given planning permission for a permanent base. • Ulverston Inshore Rescue had used land at Canal Foot owned by GSK for more than 20 years. • When GSK closed its factory in August 2025, the land was gifted to the charity. • Westmorland and Furness Council has now approved storage facilities, welfare units and parking for rescue vehicles. • The station officer said the team would otherwise have had nowhere to go. • The charity was formed in 2002 after a father and son drowned in Morecambe Bay.
