Suffolk fire service sees record on-call applications after Dunwich blaze

• Suffolk's fire service received 219 applications in its latest on-call firefighter campaign, more than double the 70 to 100 it usually gets across all six annual appeals. • The surge follows the July fire at Dunwich Heath and neighbouring RSPB Minsmere, which took nearly two weeks to stand crews down. • The chief fire officer called it an exceptional result showing strong community spirit.
