Only one female scientist named in GCSE specifications, research finds
• Just one woman appears among the 86 scientists named in UK GCSE exam specifications, a University of Cambridge study has found. • Rosalind Franklin, the English chemist whose 1950s work helped reveal the structure of DNA, is the sole female scientist mentioned across the biology, chemistry and other science specifications examined by academics from Cambridge and institutions in the US and Australia. • Exam boards said there was a clear need for greater representation in science qualifications.
