£33m VAT fraudster on the run in Dubai

• One of the UK's most prolific fraudsters remains on the run in Dubai after stealing more than £33m of public money. • Arif Patel, who masterminded a massive VAT carousel fraud, was described by a judge as breathtakingly arrogant and totally dishonest. • Veteran tax fraud investigator Rod Stone compared the case to Al Capone, saying the gangster was brought down by the taxman and calling Patel's conviction and 20-year sentence a satisfying result.
