Plan for multibillion-pound Sizewell nuclear plant a 'terrible deal' for UK taxpayers, MPs say

• The public accounts committee says the funding deal for the Sizewell C nuclear plant in Suffolk is a terrible deal for taxpayers. • MPs warned the cost could spiral to almost £48bn, with billpayers providing an extra £9.8bn before 2040 and £12bn over its 60-year life. • The government holds a 44.9% stake, alongside EDF (12.5%), Centrica (15%), La Caisse (20%) and Amber Infrastructure (7.6%). • The government expects the plant to cost £40.5bn-£47.7bn, complete between 2039 and 2043, and says it could save £2bn a year once operational.
